Which movie does this clip come from?
This clip is from the movie Les Misérables.
What is this movie about?
Les Misérables is a epitome of historical tragedy . It reflects several poor lives suffer from different kind of pain in 19 century in France. Jean Valjean the prisoner who can't get rid of the past and the prejudice just like a ghost followed him through his whole life. Fantine is a struggling single mother who becomes a street prostitute in order to pay for her child's well-being. Javert is often regarded as a bad guy in this movie, but he suffered from the dilemma between the duty of police and his conscience and finally suicided.
What is happening in this clip?
Fantine was hurt by her lover and became a poor single mother. She had to work hard to make a living. The supervisor of the factory did sexual harassment to her and wanted to offend her. Others worker insulted her was a prostitute while the supervisor also wanted to drive her out because he shamed into anger.
In this clip, the girl is offended by her supervisor and co-workers because of her disreputable behavior- having a child without married. She tried to defend herself by resisting her supervisor's words; however, this brings her nothing but being dismissed. I think the situation in the clip is an epitome of the society at that time.

回覆刪除Fantine says that she has a daughter who has no father. She cannot be fired because of the daughter. However, with the insulting from her co-workers' and the refusing of the boss's sexual innuendo, she is still fired by the boss. The man on the upstairs(Hugh Jackman) seems to be the only nice guy, In the end Fatine yells at her and says that she has a child, I think she is asking him for taking care of her child.
回覆刪除This is so interesting that I've seen both trailer and movie clip of two different movies from three classmates' blog! And I love them!!
